Medics in southern Yemen say five people protesting in support of separatists there, have been killed and dozens more are wounded.
Government forces say armed men tried to storm a local government building in the city of Ataq.
The military used live fire to disperse crowds.
The protesters oppose the dissolution of the separatist Southern Transitional Council (STC), following talks in Saudi Arabia last month.
