Lebanon is grappling with a worsening food crisis as ongoing Israeli attacks and the closure of strategic waterways drive up prices and limit supplies. Before the escalation, nearly 870,000 people were already food insecure. The past month has made conditions even more difficult, with soaring fuel and fertilizer costs, rising food prices, and more than a million people displaced.
Al Jazeera speaks to Allison Oman Lawi, the World Food Programme’s Country Director for Lebanon, who joins us live from Beirut. She explains how WFP teams are delivering hot meals, cash assistance, and food convoys—especially to the south, where markets are struggling and essential stocks are running low.
We also hear from Retired Rear Admiral Syed Faisal Ali Shah, a former senior Pakistani Navy officer and defence and security analyst, joining us from Islamabad, who assesses Pakistan’s role in supporting negotiations amid a fragile regional landscape.
